Public Holidays Guide: National Holidays, Religious Holidays and Eves

Whether you plan leave, count working days, prepare payroll or set a deadline, the first thing to check is that year's public holidays. National holidays fall on the same date every year. Religious holidays follow the Hijri calendar and move about 11 days earlier each year, so their weekdays change every year.

Working on a public holiday

Under the Turkish Labour Law, an employee who works on a national or general holiday is paid one extra day's wage for that day. Holiday work is therefore paid at twice the normal daily wage. You can use the wage tools on our site for payroll and overtime calculations.

Frequently asked questions

Is a holiday that falls on a weekend moved to another day? No. In Turkey a public holiday on a weekend is not moved to a weekday.
Are bridge days public holidays? No. They may be announced as administrative leave for public institutions, but they are not public holidays.
Where do the dates come from? Holidays are kept per year in our system, based on the Official Gazette and announcements of the relevant institutions. A new year's dates are added once they are announced.
